COMMON DECLARATION
We, the Youth Organizations EDON, CTP
Youth Branch, Proodeftiki S.M, BDH Youth Branch, PEOM, TKP Youth Branch,
BKP Youth Branch, KSP Youth Branch, YBH Youth and the Bicommunal
Organizations "Bicommunal Choir" and "Doctors for Cyprus" declare the
following:
1-
We
Re-affirm all our previous common declarations and our commitment for a
solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bi-communal, bi-zonal
federation as provided in the two high level agreements of 1977 and 1979
and all relevant UN resolutions. Our Struggle in Cyprus for peace and
reunification that has been going on for years has come to a new point
with the referenda on 24th April. The referenda were not the end of the
road. The end of the road will only be the solution and the
reunification of Cyprus. At this new point we will continue to struggle
for a solution based on the Anan Plan,
2-
We
share a common vision with regard to the future of our common homeland,
which is a vision of peace, reconciliation, common struggle and
prosperity for all. We therefore protest the anti-peace, nationalist and
chauvinist propaganda and actions which emerged in both communities
during the period which preceded and followed the referenda,
3-
We
call upon the International community, particularly the UN and the EU to
elaborate on ways and means to safeguard some legitimate concerns of the
Greek Cypriot community in the U.N plan, without reopening the whole
plan for negotiations. Such a development will greatly facilitate
the pro-peace, progressive forces in the Greek Cypriot community to
encourage the people in order to reach a solution in the period ahead,
4-
We,
with the experience of the dark days due to the chauvinist policies
going on for years, reiterate our determination to redouble our efforts
for the reunification of our common island. A solution is now more than
ever necessary to all concerned. We announce to the International
Community that the pro-peace Cypriot forces shall never give up in their
struggle and are now more than ever determined to bring their efforts
for peace to a successful outcome,
5-
We,
as progressive and pro-peace young forces of both communities, stress
the necessity of achieving a solution, as soon as possible. We declare
to people of Cyprus and to the international community our common will
to continue and reinforce our struggle for a peaceful and prosperous
island in the framework of a United Cyprus.
